Technical requirements
If you’re thinking of booking The Groovy Funky Things for your function, wedding, or party, the information below will be useful. However, the easiest thing to do is to provide your venue contact details as early as possible. That way the band can liaise with venue staff to ensure that everything works perfectly for your event.
Stage area
The GFTs can set up, comfortably, on a stage/floor area of approximately 5 x 4 metres (16 x 13 feet). This includes space for front-of-house speakers, lighting stands and all other equipment. The band can squeeze into tighter spaces, but after a while everything starts to get a little cramped. It is also important that accessways, particularly fire exits, aren’t blocked!
Power supply
All of The GFTs’ equipment can be powered safely from two separate 13amp mains sockets. These should be on or close to the stage area and easily accessible, without needing to run cables across accessways or fire exits! Ideally, mains sockets should be one on either side of the stage area.
How loud will the band play at your wedding, function or party?
The Groovy Funky Things aren’t a particularly loud band by many standards. However, as anyone who has attended a gig will know, live music is never exactly quiet. The GFTs aim to provide a great vibe for those on the dance floor, without ruining the evening for those who want to sit it out and chat at the back.
Unfortunately, sound-level restrictions are a fact of life for many venues. Ideally, however, the stage mains supply should not be connected to a sound limiter set below 95db. Anything below this will start to impact on the band’s performance and your guests’ enjoyment. Bear in mind that a single, unamplified human voice and many acoustic instruments can easily exceed this sound level! It is possible to work at lower volumes, but it becomes significantly more difficult and definitely affects the quality of the show..
Self-sufficient function band
The GFTs, carry their own PA system and lighting equipment, which is more than sufficient for indoor banquet style events with up to around 250 guests. Or, to put it another way, events in rooms up to around 300 square metres or 3200 square feet in size. That means that The GFTs are completely self-sufficient for functions, parties and weddings held in the majority of hotel function rooms or similar spaces. However, if your event is considerably larger, we can easily hire additional equipment to cover this.
Venue PA systems
Some venues demand that bands plug their mixer directly into the venue’s PA system, in order for venue staff to manage volume levels. The GFTs are more than happy to do this, but they really can’t be held responsible for the result!
