Our technical needs

If you’re thinking of booking the band for your function, wedding, or party, the information below will be useful. However, the easiest thing to do is to provide us with your venue contact details as early as possible. That way we can liaise with them to ensure that everything works perfectly for your event.

Stage area

We can set up, comfortably, in a floor/stage area of approximately 4.5 x 3 metres (15 x 10 feet). This includes space for front-of-house speaker stands and all other equipment. We can squeeze into tighter spaces, but after a while, everything starts to get a little cramped. It is also important that we don’t block accessways, particularly fire exits!

Power supply

Ideally, we require two separate 13amp mains sockets within easy reach of the stage. These should be accessible without needing to run cables across accessways or fire exits.

How loud will the band play at your wedding, function or party?

Groovy Funky Things isn’t a loud band by many standards. However, as anyone who has attended a gig will know, live music is never exactly quiet. Our aim is to enable those on the dance floor to enjoy themselves while allowing those who might want to sit it out to listen in comfort. In other words, to have a great vibe at the front of the room, but be able to hold a conversation at the back.

We understand that sound-level restrictions are a fact of life for many venues. Ideally, however, the stage mains supply should not be connected to a sound limiter set below 95db. Anything below this will start to affect our performance and your guests’ enjoyment. Bear in mind that a single, unamplified human voice and many acoustic instruments can easily exceed this sound level! We can work at lower volumes, but it becomes significantly more difficult and definitely affects what we do.

Self-sufficient function band

We carry a PA system and lighting equipment sufficient for indoor events with up to around 200 guests. Or, to put it another way, events in rooms up to around 300 square metres or 3200 square feet in size. That means we’re completely self-sufficient for functions, parties and weddings held in the majority of hotel or conference centre event suites. However, if your event is considerably larger, we’re easily able to hire additional equipment to cover this.

Venue PA systems

Some venues demand that bands plug their mixer directly into the venue’s PA system, in order for venue staff to manage volume levels. We are more than happy to do this, but can’t be held responsible for the result.
