FAQs

Where do The GFTs perform?

The GFTs are Based in Stourbridge, in the heart of the Black Country, performing regularly throughout the West Midlands and surrounding regions. However, The GFTs can happily play at events almost anywhere! For longer distances, fees obviously need to reflect additional transport costs and extended time commitment. If overnight accommodation is required, the cost of this will also need to be passed on to the customer.

How much does it cost to hire The GFTs?

Fees will vary, depending on the size of your event, its location, and how long the band is expected to be on site. This ensures that musicians are suitably compensated for their time, and also ensures that all costs are covered. For an accurate quote, use the contact form, giving as many details as you can about your event. Please include: event date, venue details (including specific room if applicable), number of guests/delegates expected; as these are all crucial to providing an accurate quote.

How long does the band play for?

The GFTs normally perform for a total of two hours. This can be split into two or three sets as required. Realistically, the band needs a break of 20 – 30 minutes between sets. 9.00 pm – 10.00 pm and then 10.30 – 11.30 pm are fairly typical set timings. If you have specific requirements, to accommodate a buffet, or presentation, for example, working around these is usually very straightforward.

Do The GFTs use backing tracks?

Absolutely not! We pride ourselves on being a live band. We don’t use backing tracks, harmonisers, autotune, or any other tricks in our performances. Our keyboard player uses the odd sample for special effects, but that’s as close as we come to artificially supplementing or enhancing our shows.

Do The GFTs perform requests?

The band can’t usually satisfy spontaneous requests from the audience (unless it’s a number from our repertoire). However, if there is a song you specifically require, a first dance, for example, The GFTs can arrange and rehearse this in advance.

  • Please be aware that preparing a new song takes time! So, if the band is unlikely to ever play the song again, a small additional fee will be charged! It also means that requests should be made at the time of booking rather than just before your event!
Can we have recorded music played between sets?

Yes! The GFTs are more than happy to provide recorded music from a playlist before and between sets. Your input into this is more than welcome: simply email a list of numbers that you would like to include!

  • If you want recorded music after the band has finished their final set, this must be arranged in advance! Depending on how late music is required, an additional fee may be charged!
Does the band allow audience members on stage?

Not unless they happen to be Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, or someone similar! There are many ways that an exuberant or intoxicated individual can wreck a performance and potentially cause costly damage to equipment. A stage is also a potentially dangerous place, with multiple trip hazards and a great deal of electrical equipment. While the musicians in the band don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, they have to protect themselves, their equipment, and your guests.

Is The Band self-sufficient in terms of equipment?

The GFTs carry their own PA system and lighting equipment, suitable for banquet style events of up to around 250 people, or rooms of up to around 300 square metres/3200 square feet in size. This covers most hotel and conference venues in the UK. For larger events, additional PA and lighting equipment may need to be hired.

How loud are The GFTs?

The GFTs aren’t a particularly loud band by many standards. However, the style of music they perform demands sufficient volume for dancers to enjoy themselves. The GFTs aim to provide a good vibe for those on the dance floor while enabling other guests to chat comfortably.

How long does the band take to set up?

The GFTs need approximately an hour to prepare. This gives the band time to set up equipment and sound check, ensuring that everything is perfect for your event. This typically means arrival at 6.00 pm and setup/soundcheck by 7.00 pm. If your event requires the room to be ready for guests earlier than this, an earlier arrival can be arranged.

  • Please note that this time estimate assumes that the room can be accessed and that the stage area is clear upon arrival!
What size stage do you need?

The GFTs can comfortably set up in an area of around 5 metres wide by 4 metres deep (16 x 13 feet). This includes space for PA system, lighting, and all other equipment. It may be possible for the band to work in smaller spaces, but after a while, things start to get a little cramped!

Is The GFTs a fixed lineup or does the band sometimes use session musicians?

The GFTs always prefer to work as a fixed lineup. However, when this isn’t possible, the band draws on a pool of extremely talented, well-trained, and experienced musicians. The majority of GFTs players earn their entire income from music. Between them, they have performed live for many thousands of hours! Songs are carefully arranged and notated for each instrument and, if necessary, can be read at sight by guest players. So, while individual musicians may sometimes change from show to show, the quality of The GFTs’ performance will never suffer!
